For People and Animals with Special Needs – Help Us to Help Them
We receive no government or lottery funding. Therefore, we rely totally on the generosity of our supporters to help with our animal care, our work within the community and to keep our gates open 365 days of the year to rescue animals and re-home where possible.
NO KILL Policy
The Animal Sanctuary UK has a NO KILL policy so all animals we rescue or ones that are surrendered to us are re-homed or stay with us for the rest of their life. This policy includes accepting former sanctuary animals back if their owners discard them.
We also actively promote organic, fair trade & a cruelty free lifestyle.
The Animal Sanctuary UK has been on its present site in Dorney since June 2012.
Animals all over the country are suffering dreadfully due to the recession, hundreds are dying needlessly each week and are left neglected and uncared for. Quite often they are dumped or left to die in appalling conditions.
One of the many horses that arrived last year after being rescued. She was starved, beaten and ridden into the ground, although progress has been a little slow due to the nature of her condition, she has gained weight and is coming along nicely due to the care and hard work of the staff and volunteers.
Over recent years there has been an increase in abandoned horses where presumably they have no value to their owners now!. Unscrupulous owners just leave the horses in a field to take their chances. Many die through neglect and starvation.
Since we opened we have saved and rescued hundreds of abandoned and abused animals. We urgently require donations to help feed these lovely creatures and to ensure they remain safe and secure. When you think of the cost of food alone, we are facing a difficult time. Running costs are not getting any cheaper and we need to complete building maintenance to provide secure homes for our many animals. Every donation, no matter how small will help us to ensure that we can carry on doing the great work we do here and to make sure that no animal need suffer.
The Sanctuary was originally established as a safe haven for abused and unwanted horses. It wasn’t long before many other types of animal joined our permanent residents and sought the safety, security and love from the volunteers and visitors to the Sanctuary. All animals that can be, are re-homed so our permanent residents are those for whom a new home is, sadly not an option, either due to medical and/or psychological problems or old age. Since the Sanctuary began it has found loving homes for many of the horses and innumerable cats, dogs, rabbits and poultry.
We are now a donation funded organisation, Registered Charity Number 1153368 dedicated to the welfare and maintenance of ALL animals. We rely on donations from the generous and caring public and the work done by our dedicated and much appreciated volunteers along with the love and support shown to us from all of our supporters. Our belief is that no animal should suffer or be put down needlessly. Our aim is to nurse back to health and then find loving homes for most of the animals in our care.
The sanctuary works with schools and the local community. We have many groups that visit from all walks of life and we work hard at supporting people with learning disabilities who love to come and spend time together with the animals here at the sanctuary.
We can also bring our small animals to you!
Rabbits, Guinea Pigs, Chickens and Ducks
Can’t get to us? We can come to you!
Our animals would be a great addition to any party, fete or residential home event.
